May 2010 Shows
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Association’s 18th Anniversary Gala
The Jazz Co. performed Michael Bennett’s choreography for A Chorus Line on Friday, May 7. In the audience was Baayork Lee, the dancer who originated the role of “Connie” in the opening season on Broadway. The producer of the event sent this message:
Thank you for bringing your dancers to our gala. They performed beautifully and represented the Cookie Joe’s Dancin’ School with honor. Your girls were the highlight of Baayork’s evening. She could not stop smiling.
I asked Baayork if she had any pointers or “things that could be improved” to pass along. Her reply was that she had none. Baayork said the girls had “beautiful lines” and could tell that “they had excellent teachers and instruction.” Her only advice was to keep on doing what they have been doing at our studio.
Lakewood Church’s J-Life Showcase
Other members of The Jazz Company were also featured at Lakewood Church that same night. The dancers inspired and entertained at the J-Life Showcase benefiting Dr. Paul. In addition to their performance, a $200 donation was made in the dancers’ names to the event. The company performed a Hip Hop routine to the song Hasta La Vista from Disney’s Camp Rock movie. Lakewood’s Sr. Pastor, Joel Osteen and his wife, Victoria, were on hand to warmly greet the dancers and Cookie Joe.
